Teacher pension letter had the facts wrong

I am a retired teacher and was amazed to read the statement in the letter, "He wants to stay if he can afford to," (Dec. 14), stating teacher retirees receive a 50 percent pension discount on their state income tax.

Having been retired for a decade, I can assure him that no teacher has been entitled to such. Indeed, unless teachers have had other employment, they do not get Social Security. So those on Social Security and those with military pensions get discounts to which teachers have not been entitled. This past year Gov. Dannel P. Malloy attempted to right this inequity, and I wait with bated breath until I can get the same type of discount so many other retirees have been enjoying.
