Ritter can help elderly with probate changes

Betsy Ritter will be getting a nice salary in her new job as commissioner of the Department on Aging. Let us seniors see if she earns it.

I have a great suggestion that would help seniors; revamp the probate system. Today, it is too long and time consuming. The Form CT706 is complicated and loaded with legalities, making it difficult to understand. As seniors enter their late 70s or 80s, many face cognitive challenges. They are desperate for help. The system is supposed to help them to protect their estate for their loved ones. Instead it is so complicated, many are told to get a lawyer. That, of course, will cost a fortune. We all know what they charge per hour!

It makes one think the system was made not to help seniors, but to enrich the law profession. The lawyers that are available are fine and helpful, but what is needed are classes for seniors because there are so many questions to be answered regarding the many forms involved. The governor says he wants to help seniors, so let us see Ritter get behind an effort to revamp the probate system.
