Those intent on war didn't learn lesson

The letter calling the United States to declare war on Iran, "Action needed now to stop Iranian bomb," (Feb. 22), is but one of several that have appeared in The Day over the past weeks. We heard similar calls to war in 2002 when weapons of mass destruction in Iraq were the excuse, and the threat was imminent. Twelve years later, have we learned nothing?

The devastation caused by this unfinished war has brought turmoil to the entire region and fanned terrorism throughout the world, not to mention the cost in human life, national treasure and American prestige.

It is very much to be hoped that the ongoing talks with Iran to reach a nuclear agreement will succeed. It is also to be hoped that Iran might use its regional power to help put an end to ISIL and restore stability in Iraq and Syria. Who in his right mind could wish otherwise?
