Finizio is no prize, but Passero is worse

    xxxxx

In recent decades, The Day consistently advocated for policies or persons detrimental to New London and surrounding communities. They advocated for NLDC and finally achieved their dream of a strong mayor in New London four years ago. Both were disasters. Add in Dr. Carter, magnet schools (a massive financial disaster for New London and surrounding towns), Coast Guard Museum, and countless exorbitant fiascos.

Now we learn the messiah is Michael Passero, specifically David Collins’ column, “Game on in New London mayoral race,” (April 19). Let’s see, a lifetime city employee since age 16 and former union spokesman tells us he’s going to slash spending and we believe him? Passero voted for each of Mayor Finizio’s budgets. The council controls spending. Yet, Councilor Passero promises to drastically increase the police budget. Mutually exclusive policies. Passero has not promised to cut taxes, only to slow the rate of increase. Those who despise Finizio place wishful words into Passero’s mouth.

Voting is a choice between bad and worse. Passero is obviously worse, part of the corrupt system that ran New London for years.  Finizio is no prize, but Passero would raise taxes much faster. Those with ears plugs need to remove them.
