    Day photos depicted dangerous activities

The Day’s photo, “All aboard for Jordan Cove,” (July 22), shows, a seemingly innocent, Jordan Cove event of a family of six, two adults and four young children balanced precariously on an unsafe floatation board in almost three feet of water. No one is wearing lifevests. What chaos, if the floatation tipped and the four kids plunged underwater.

July 21 featured, “Taking a plunge in North Stonington,” a photo of a family of three leaping off a large rock outcrop in Billings Lake in North Stonington; only the five-year-old was wearing a life-vest. The father and the 10-year-old were not. What if the adult hit his head on a submerged rock in this state-prohibited swimming area? No swimming, no trespassing signs abound near this state boat launch.

I owned a cottage (30 years ago) only 50 yards from this rock outcrop. I moved out hastily when I witnessed a large infestation of venomous snakes near the spillway and rock outcrop. The park ranger denied me my deeded right to swim at that spot. Compounding the distress was when large biker groups congregated to party. I wonder if this swimming hole is still a no-rules partying place?
