After watching the Groton Representative Town Meeting on television I have to wonder how these individuals were vetted. I believe that most were not. Knowing how hard it is to fill these local seats, I am certain that a blood pressure is all that is required. I have many examples of how out of touch or devoid of the facts these individuals are. One RTM member, always quite vocal at these meetings, spoke of the four nominees for the chairperson when there were only two.

This is a huge problem because by allowing just a warm-body to determine how our monies are spent in a community leads to economic catastrophe. The RTM has become a social gathering, with snacks for members, where one commands attention just by raising a hand, standing up and speaking into a microphone; regardless of their command of the situation at hand. Give the citizenry back their voices and their right to vote on town spending. The RTM social club must go. We need to get serious here in Groton. All of our lives depend on it.
