Groton lawmakers failed to get aid for Groton

It appears that state Reps. John Scott and Aundre Bumgardner of Groton were asleep at the wheel when they thought they were driving forward a plan to get state funding to upgrade Groton schools and correct persistent racial imbalance.

Neither representative put forth the proper effort to make this happen. Just excuses coming from Scott. No comment from Bumgardner, who proudly boasted in his last mailing to constituents that he served on the Education Committee at the State Capitol. His place on that committee got Groton nowhere getting the project approved. Their job is to know what is happening in Hartford and to effectively advocate for their towns.

People often pick where they live by the quality of the school system. In a domino effect, business opportunities and subsequently moderate to lower taxes follow towns with investments in education that make the community solid for years. Inexperience and blaming others are no excuse for not finding out what was happening regarding Groton’s application for state funding.

It’s time to replace both Scott and Bumgardner in the November election with Democrats who have both consistently supported education in Groton and will dot the i’s and cross the t’s in Hartford.
