Voters will reject foolish Groton school project plan

NOTE: This letter has been updated to correct an editing mistake.

What are they thinking? The Groton town councilors are a microcosm of most of this country's governing bodies. Given tax revenue sources from their tied and bound property owners and income producers, they redistribute this bounty to whoever will vote them another term.

The Groton school project is a case in point. Adding to the burden of the state and local taxpayers, the Town Council has funded a runaway school design committee and their consultant who have devised a plan to spend upwards of a quarter of a billion dollars to build one new school and throw three more derelict buildings onto the town's lap.

This despite the voters rejecting by 75 percent their last futile attempt to drain the coffers a few years ago. This in the face of a massive property tax increase.

This in spite of a bankrupt state.

Why are they spending the money to put this scheme on the ballot? Who in their right mind will vote for it? The plan does not address the ongoing costs to maintain the abandoned properties, nor the costs of infrastructure enhancements, nor the added costs of student transportation. What are they thinking?
