Provide bins aplenty for Montville service

In reference to the Sept. 19 article, “Montville recycling pickup will soon be biweekly, with bigger bins.” Fair warning to the residents of Montville, Norwich went to this “automated” process approximately one year ago, giving residents one garbage bin and one recycling bin. Our neighbors have three blue and three green bins. My family utilized the initial one blue and one green bin delivered by Willimantic Waste. Over time we realized that our family of five creates double the amount of recycling as garbage so I contacted Willimantic Waste to request an additional blue container for recycling and was referred to the City of Norwich. When I spoke to a representative of the city, I was informed that they “had met their quota” and if I wanted an additional blue container it would cost me $90.

Now, unfortunately, much of what could be recycled ends up in the garbage due to the lack of a second recycling bin (generally light items rather than glass/cans). So get additional recycling bins up front if you think you may need them and let them sit empty if need be, otherwise this mandate will cost you money.

As for trash pickup, a person still has to walk back and hook the garbage bin to the rear of the truck to have it “automatically” dump.
