No more middlemen in electric supply chain

Buy Direct, avoid the middleman, and save. Except, of course, if you are buying electricity in Connecticut, then we have a middleman. Middlemen who often have misleading and confusing sales promotions. Now The Day editorial, “Well-crafted Millstone bill deserves support,” (March 19) says that for the Millstone Power Station a middleman is bad idea. If it is a bad idea for Millstone, why isn’t it a bad idea for all the energy suppliers?

The Day implies that we need a middleman, sometimes, because in Connecticut electric generation is a deregulated industry. Then it goes on to say the proposed legislation would have oversight by the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the Office of Consumer Council, and the attorney general. That does not sound deregulated to me.

Get rid of the middleman and let’s stop paying close to the highest electric rates in the nation.
