Murphy's 'Buy American' slogan won't help create jobs

This is in regards to, “'Buy American' order could boost manufacturing,” (April 19). The senator's support for this executive order is totally misplaced. The Trump administration's understanding of trade is erroneous. We have trade deficits with many of our trading partners not because of unfair trade practices by them, but because we spend more than they buy.

United States is not a liberal open market, it's about in the middle of all trading nations. In fact, this order will hurt Connecticut, not help. Our largest manufacture, Pratt-Whitney, is also our largest exporter, through engines and service contracts. So if Sen. Chris Murphy wants to help Connecticut expand its economy (service, intellectual property and manufacturing), he should focus on helping Connecticut meet world completion by promoting its world-leading products like pharmaceuticals, adaptation of its nuclear reactor technology for power generation, aircraft engine and service contacts and, as the third leading state in hydrogen fuel technology, promote this and other Connecticut world marketplace technologies, not some misplaced slogan that will not bring jobs to Connecticut.
