She's not thrilled Congdon is running again

I have a question: How can you print a great story by Claire Bessette, “Mattern Farm reborn as Sweet Grass Creamery,” (July 22), showcasing Ed Mattern’s wonderful dairy-cheese operation? We’re not exactly neighbors. You then compliment First Selectman Robert Congdon’s new blight ordinance passed by a mere 20-something of raised hands?

You compared Preston to New London’s blight’s rules, “Attacking blight takes more than an ordinance,” (July 23). Preston has less than 5,000 population. Show me one comparison to a large city? Our Town Hall is open four days! Urban blight laws belong in cities with large populations, not Preston.

I believe a petition could overturn it; I’ll sign it. Don’t pick on lifetime residents and pit them against the new large housing projects springing up on old farmland. What a waste. We were here first. Some families since 1687, like mine.

I think in my opinion, Congdon needs to retire after 22 years. First selectman gets $76,200 a year for a four-day work week. Give others a chance.

That is one life-long Preston resident’s opinion.
