Taking a knee is easy, investing in change hard

In response to Jeff Sattler letter, “Kneeling is as benign as it gets,” (Jan. 6), telling those of us who believe in standing for our national anthem to take a "chill pill," let me say this; you have a right to protest because of the brave who protect us every day; police, firefighters, soldiers, federal and state employees in corrections, and countless others.

The athletes you say are peacefully protesting are nothing more than overpaid, pampered, amateur social activists who instead of encouraging dialogue between their so-called innocent victims and their oppressors are creating more division. If they really wanted action on the issue, instead of shock value, which seems to be the NFL's selling point these days, they could make more headway by funding social change.

If they want to be social activists, let them put their money where their knees are. It’s easy to take a knee, and insult the very people who afford you that freedom, but opening your bank vault seems to be too much to ask. Maybe the NFL should make the protesters take a "chill pill," Mr. Sattler.

Ratings don't lie. NFL viewership is down and we all know why. Rocket man’s best buddy, Dennis Rodman, said it best years ago. "Don't expect me to be a role model. I'm an athlete."
