A 'yes' vote is for seniors

Groton’s senior citizens are not stupid.

As a Groton taxpayer and a senior citizen who has been paying Groton taxes since 1956, I resent the claims of those opposed to the Charter Revision that we seniors need the RTM because the budget issues are “too complex” for us to understand. Trust me, seniors are perfectly capable of understanding this town’s budget process. Thank you for the offer, but we really don’t need the RTM, or anyone else, to cast our vote for us.

Here’s one thing I do know. Over the past three years my Social Security income has increased by about two percent. Real estate taxes in this town have gone up 15 percent! That’s over seven times the rate of our income. The RTM, acting on our behalf, has made it that much harder for us to survive here!

If your goal is to chase seniors out of town, then vote “No.” Keep the RTM and keep hurting seniors. But if you want a fair process to create a town in which all can afford to live you must vote “Yes” for the charter revision on Nov. 6.
