    In other women's basketball news:

    • UConn freshman guard Sadie Edwards has left the program and will transfer, coach Gene Auriemma announced. Edwards, a native of Meriden who spent part of her career at Mercy High in Middletown before moving to New Jersey, will complete her final exams before the university finalizes her transfer.

"Sadie is a great kid who will be missed by the coaching staff and her teammates," Auriemma said in a statement released by UConn. "Getting to know Sadie and her family has been a pleasure but she has voiced her desire to play more and we have come to the mutual agreement that this can best be accomplished at a different school. I wish Sadie nothing but the best in the future."

    Men's basketball

    • Matthew Miller's layup with one second left gave Merchant Marine Academy a 51-49 win over rival Coast Guard in Kings Point, N.Y. The Bears (4-5) battled back from a 17-point deficit before Miller, after having his first shot blocked by Eli Sponseller, grabbed his own rebound and scored. David Anderson led Coast Guard with 22 points and five rebounds while Kevin Alvarez added 11 points and eight rebounds.

    Women's hockey

    • Coast Guard senior Nate Giorgio was named New England Wrestling Association Wrestler of the Week for the second straight week and was one of three Bears to earn weekly honors. In addition, senior heavyweight Mark Howard was named Pilgrim Wrestling League Co-Wrestler of the Week and freshman Chris Sullivan was named PWL Rookie of the Week. CGA, under first-year coach Kevin Bratland, also climbed three spots and is now tied for the third in the latest New England Division III rankings.

Giorgio (16-0) was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the York Invitational after capturing the 133-pound championship and defeating Ithaca's Alex Gomez, a national finalist last year and the top-ranked wrestler in the nation, 11-5. Howard went 3-1 with three pins and finished second at the York Invite, and Sullivan (157 pounds) reached the semifinals at York with back-to-back pins.
