Final open house for Joint Land Use Study to be held Sept. 27

The Southeastern Connecticut Council of Governments, Naval Submarine Base and the City of Groton, Town of Groton, Ledyard, New London, Montville and Waterford have announced that they are seeking public input on a Joint Land Use Study draft report.

The draft report provides measures intended to support the economy, environment and community, while safeguarding the Navy's mission.

The draft report, along with instructions for commenting, will be posted on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at bit.ly/subaseJLUS. The comment period will close on Oct. 11.

The public is invited to provide feedback at the third and final open house, which will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at the Submarine Force Library and Museum, 1 Crystal Lake Road, Groton.

The JLUS consultant team will present at 4:45 p.m., 5:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. during the open house. Between presentations, the team will be available to answer questions and take comments.

Draft strategies include coordinating planning efforts in areas of potential concern, improving transportation options to the SUBASE and Electric Boat facilities, establishing agreements around future coordination and communication between municipalities and the SUBASE and researching best practices around cost-sharing agreements to fund local school districts.

Visit www.subasenljlus.com for more information, to see the results of past meetings, or to sign up to receive project updates by email.

Policy and Technical committees, two public open houses and an online survey have guided the development of the draft report.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
