Simmons to host boathouse park fundraiser
Stonington — First Selectman Rob Simmons and his wife, Heidi, will host the capital campaign kickoff event for the construction of the boathouse and dock at the Mystic River Boathouse Park on Saturday, Sept. 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. at their home, 268 N. Main St.
The event originally had been slated for Sept. 21.
The guest speaker will be Steve Gladstone, the head coach of the Yale University heavyweight crew team.
The town already has appropriated $2.2 million to create the public park, while the Friends of Stonington Crew plans to raise the money needed to construct the Hart Perry Community Rowing Center boathouse and dock, which also will be for public use.
Simmons stressed the fundraiser is a nonpartisan event and all political candidates, regardless of party affiliation, are welcome.
