What in the World? East Lyme's "B" road sign

I have been an Old Lyme resident for 20 years. I always take Exit 75 Flanders on my way home, and for years I have been wondering about a certain road sign just off the exit.

It is a black capital letter “B” in a white box. An arrow underneath implies the “B” is straight ahead. As you approach the traffic light there is another sign “B” with an arrow saying go Left. There are no more signs directing you to the “B” after that. But, if you turn around and go to the red light there is a “B” with an arrow to take a right at the light.

My question is, what does the “B” stand for? I have asked everyone I know who lives in East Lyme: police officers, firemen, and local business owners. No one knows what it means.

It makes no sense. I really hope you can solve this mystery for me. It’s not life changing but it has been bugging me for years.
