New London schools to offer counseling in light of alleged crimes of former employee

New London — New London Public Schools is bringing in additional counselors to Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School this week as needed to meet the need of students or families looking to talk.

Superintendent Cynthia Ritchie announced the move in a letter dated July 6 and posted to the school district’s website. It is dated the same day court documents were unsealed and further details were made public of an alleged sexual assault of a student at the hands of former middle school employee Corriche Gaskin.

Counselors are available from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, and students do not need to sign up ahead of time. The meetings will be held in private locations at the school. Anyone with specific questions or in need of additional support can contact school psychologist Carrie Rivera at (860) 625-4723.
