    Local roundup: Porter leads Avery Point to easy win

    Holyoke, Mass. - Keith Porter had 32 points, 10 rebounds and five assists to lead UConn-Avery Point to an easy 69-48 men's basketball victory over Holyoke Community College on Tuesday night.

    Benny Dong added 10 points for the Pointers, who improved to 3-5.

    In other games:

    • Eastern Connecticut jumped out to an early 20-2 lead and cruised to an 88-60 win over Connecticut College on Monday night. Freshman Lee Messier came off the bnech to score 16 points for the Camels (2-2).

    Women's basketball

    • UConn's Breanna Stewart and Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis have been named to the 2014-15 Wade Watch list by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. The Wade Trophy is presented annually to the nation's top player. The list features 25 players. Stewart, a junior, is averaging 21 points per game for the Huskies while Mosqueda-Lewis, a senior, is one of the nation's top 3-point shooters.

    • Carolina Brasa scored 16 points as Western Connecticut beat Conn College 56-51 in Danbury. Freshman Mairead Hyndes had 24 points and six rebounds to lead the Camels (3-1), who short only 31.1 percent from the floor.

    • Avery Point won its third straight game with a 54-45 win over Holyoke CC. Carynn Bartolucci scored 17 points to leader the Pointers while Brianna Padewski added 13 points, seven rebounds and five steals.
