    Local roundup: Wheeler boys rout Windham Tech 85-65

    North Stonington - Jacob Raggon had 29 points and seven rebounds as Wheeler High School rolled to an 85-65 nonleague boys' basketball victory over Windham Tech on Tuesday night.

    Max Dussault added 15 points and 14 rebounds for the Lions (5-4) while Mike Dellaporta scored 19 points and Alex Haines had 12 rebounds.

    In other games:

    • Brody Labbe had 17 points as Windham downed St. Bernard, 57-47, in a match-up of unbeaten ECC Small teams. Darling Ventura had 14 points for Windham (7-2, 3-0). Remy Bonser had 10 points and Juan Uran nine points for the Saints (5-3, 2-1).

    • Norwich Tech scored 51 points in the first half and cruised to an 86-64 victory over Ellis Tech in the Constitution State Conference East Division. Mike Froscello led the Warriors (3-6) with 19 points, including five 3-pointers, while Mack Osias added 18 points, Alex Casillas 17 and Justin Brown 10.

    • Parish Hill defeated Grasso Tech in double overtime, 81-75, in the CSC. Kendrick Amaro and Joe Diaz scored 18 points apiece for the Eagles and Cyrus Connors added 12.

    Girls' basketball

    • Sophomore Vanessa Gumbs came off the bench to score 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, as Norwich Tech defeated Ellis Tech 45-17 for its first win of the season. Shella Jeanty added eight points for the Warriors, who broke the game open by scoring 30 points in the second half.

    Men's basketball

    • New London's Keith Porter 26 points and 14 rebounds to pace Avery Point beat Quinsigamond, 70-55. Ryan Wallack had 12 points and Dylan Conley scored 10 for Pointers.

    • Christian Vital had 22 points, six rebounds and five assists as St. Thomas More downed West Point, 83-63. C.J. Byrd had 11 points and seven rebounds for T-More and Steve Enoch added eight points and nine rebounds.

    • Jeff Tagger Jr. made 10 of 12 field goals and scored 27 with four steals as Regis beat Mitchell College, 74-63, in the New England Collegiate Conference. Sam Jean-Gilles had 14 points and eight rebounds for Regis (9-6, 4-2). Joshua Ford had a team-high 18 points, 10 rebounds and five assists for the Mariners (5-8, 3-3) and Parris Hill had 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals.

    Women's basketball

    • Caryann Bartolucci scored 25 points but Avery Point was beaten by Quinsigamond Community College 61-51. Briana Padewski added 18 for the Pointers.

    Women's hockey

    • Manhattanville scored three unanswered goals in the game's final 11 minutes to stun Conn College, 4-3. Michele Meggiolaro scored twice for Manhattanville (6-6-4) and Ekaterina Nikonova had 32 saves. Julie Beattie had two assists for the Camels (9-4-3) and Ashley Anctil, Katlyn Paiva and Kate Kohl all scored.

    H.S. swimming

    • Dakota Williams and Patrick Nowak won two individual events apiece as unbeaten Fitch/Stonington cruised to a 103-63 win over Windham/RHAM/Coventry in the Eastern Connecticut Conference. Williams won the 50-yard freestyle (22.63 seconds) and 100 free (49.19) for the Falcons (5-0, 4-0) and Nowak captured the 200 individual medley (2:17.77) and 100 butterfly (1:05.41). Sean Estep (200 free, 2:00.91) and Aaron Lewis (500 free, 5:31.50) also won individual events for Fitch/Stonington.

    • Ethan Opsahl won the 200 freestyle (2:01.13) and teamed with Jason Good, Gary Zhang, and Ryan Dumais to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.41) as East Lyme bested NFA/Ledyard, 89-79, in the ECC. Eain Goolsbey won the 200 individual medley (2:30.16), Benas Kirvelevius won the 500 freestyle (5:39.74), and Daniel Munch won the 100 backstroke (1:04.07) for East Lyme (3-4, 3-1). Fred France won the 50 freestyle (23.94) and the 100 butterfly (1:06.47) for NFA/Ledyard (1-2, 1-2) and teamed with Cristian Calderon, Tim Yuen, and Steven Boyd won the 400 freestyle relay (3:57.27). Also, Jack Wheeler won the 100 breaststroke (1:12.98) and Boyd won the 100 freestyle (55.81).

    • Matt Patton won the diving competition with a state qualifying mark of 161.70 points, highlighting Waterford's 61-28 win over New London in the ECC. Kevin Su added wins in the 200-meter individual medley (2:41.17) and 100 butterfly (1:19.97) for the Lancers (1-3, 1-3), while Tim Glavan won the 50 freestyle (34.26) and 100 free (1:21.77) for the Whalers (0-3, 0-3).

    College softball

    • Mitchell named Allison Wigand its new softball coach, athletic director Maureen White announced. It is the first head coaching job for Wigand, a 2012 Fairfield University graduate and four-year letterwinner, where she batted .322 during the final season and was named to the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference first team, the MAAC All-Academic team and the MAAC all-tournament team. Wigand spent the 2013 season as an assistant at Providence and the 2014 as an assistant at Bryant where she was involved in recruiting.

    "We are extremely excited for Allison to join our Mitchell family," White said. "We feel that her softball background and knowledge will bolster the competiveness of the program."
