    Local roundup: NFA/Ledyard tops Windham/RHAM/Coventry in boys' swimming

    Windham — Fred France won the 100-yard butterfly in 1 minute, 1.92 seconds and Steve Boyd the 200 freestyle (2:00.67) to help the Norwich Free Academy/Ledyard cooperative team defeat Windham/RHAM/Coventry, 98-85, in an Eastern Connecticut Conference swim meet on Friday.

    Zach Collins won the 500 freestyle (6:03.14) and Jack Wheeler tthe 100 breaststroke (1:08.86) for NFA/Ledyard (2-2, 2-2). Also, Tim Yuen, Jack Wheeler, Henry Rios and Seth Strader won the 200 medley relay (1:59.93) and Yovanny Santos, Boyd, Strader and France won the 200 freestyle relay (1:39.46).

    In other meets:

    • Benas Kirvelevicius won the 50 freestyle (23.84) and 100 freestyle (52.97) for East Lyme as it beat both New London (153-10) and Branford (109-75). Ryan Dumais won the 200 individual medley (2:16.45), Ethan Opsahl won the 100 breaststroke (1:10.45), and Evan Opsahl, Ethan Opsahl, Dumais and Kirvelevicius combined to win the 400 freestyle relay (3:39.76) for East Lyme (5-4, 4-1). New London (0-5, 0-4) lost to Branford 109-15.

    Men's hockey

    • Michael Flynn and Michael Hawkrigg each had two assists as Trinity College rallied to score all of its goals in the final 12 minutes of a 3-1 win over Connecticut College in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Sean Orlando, Tim Shea and Jackson Brewer scored for the Bantams (13-1-1, 8-0-1). Ryan Mowrey scored for the Camels (6-7-2, 3-5-1) and Tim Conlin had 29 saves.

    Men's basketball

    • Steve Enoch had 11 points and 11 rebounds in a losing cause as St. Thomas More lost to Notre Dame Prep, 64-61, in the opening round of the Bridgton Classic in Maine. Christian Vital had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Ryan Funk scored 13 for T-More, which will play in today's consolation game against the loser of Friday's late game between Bridgton and Naval Prep.

    H.S. gymnastics

    • Paige Stuyniski won the all-around (37.9) as Woodstock beat NFA, 146.25-129.05. Taylor Churchill finished third in the bars, beam and floor exercise for NFA (2-1, 1-1).

    Saturday postponements

    • In advance of an impending winter storm, a number of high school sporting events scheduled for today were either postponed or canceled. In boys' basketball, four games were rescheduled. The Trinity College Academy at Waterford game has been moved to Feb. 7, the Prout (R.I.) at Fitch game will be played on Feb. 14, and the NFA vs. Classical (R.I.) game at CCRI in Warwick was moved to Jan. 31.

    In hockey, the Eastern Connecticut Eagles' game at Suffield/Granby/Windsor Locks will be made up at a date to be determined and in indoor track, the SCC Coaches Invite at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven has been pushed to Sunday at noon with NFA, St. Bernard and Waterford expected to participate. All six local teams involved in wrestling meets will not make up those events, including East Lyme at the John Williams Duals (Rockville), Fitch at the Silver City Duals (Platt), Ledyard at the Fairfield Warde Duals, Montville at the Morgan Duals, NFA at Somers Duals and St. Bernard/Norwich Tech at home agains the New Haven cooperative program.

    One college event - the Coast Guard's men's and women's swimming meet at Clark - was moved from today to Sunday at 1 p.m.
