    Local roundup: Conn College falls short against Williams

    Williamstown, Mass. - The Connecticut College men's basketball team nearly won its first New England Small College Athletic Conference game of the season, losing to Williams College 83-81 on Friday night.

    Hayden Rooke-Ley of Williams (14-8, 5-4) went 3-for-4 from the the line in the final 17 seconds to seal the win.

    Zuri Pavlin had 14 points and 13 rebounds and Alex Tonhazy had 19 points and seven rebounds for Conn (7-15, 0-9). Also, Bo McKinley scored 12 and Daniel Janel had 11 points.

    In other games:

    • South Kent beat St. Thomas More, 80-70. Christian Vital led T-More (22-6) with 22 points and eight rebounds and UConn-bound Steve Enoch had 13 points and five rebounds.

    • Former New London High School standout Keith Porter scored 40 as UConn-Avery Point beat Bunker Hill Community College 83-80 on Thursday night. Matt Wallack had 12 points and five assists, Dylan Conley had 12 rebounds, and Porter had 12 rebounds and eight steals for the Pointers (8-15).

    Men's hockey

    • Four different players scored as No. 11 Amherst College beat Conn College in a NESCAC game, 4-0. Tom Conlin made 33 saves for Conn (11-8-2, 8-6-1).

    • Kevin Roy had four goals and Zach Ashton-Reese scored three times as Northeastern beat UConn 9-0 in a Hockey East match. UConn (9-14-7, 6-8-4) was held scoreless for the third time this season.

    Women's basketball

    • Williams College beat Conn College in a NESCAC game, 78-69. Mairead Hynes had 26 points and 16 rebounds and Liz Malman scored 16 for Conn (15-8, 5-4).

    H.S. swimming

    • East Lyme stretched its winning streak to eight with a 96-85 win over NFA/Ledyard in the ECC. Eain Goolsbey, Benas Kirvelevicius, Mitch Ryan, Ryan Dumais and Daniel Rubio-Ejchel won events for East Lyme (8-4, 7-1). Timothy Yuen, Fred France, Steven Boyd and Jack Wheeler won events for NFA/Ledyard (7-4, 5-4).

    H.S. indoor track

    • Stonington's Kyle Whalen was a member of two relays that placed in Thursday's CIAC Class S boys' indoor track and field championships at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven. He was misidentified in a story that ran in Friday's edition. Whalen, a junior, teamed with Matt Prue, Connor Feeney and Ulysses Sepulveda to finish second in the 4x200-meter relay (1:35.76) and the same foursome placed third in the 4x400 relay (3:39.45).
