Pawcatuck/Westerly advances to the World Series in Kirkland, Washington

Orange — Alex Mitchell had two hits, a run and an RBI and Abigail Flakus had an RBI single and scored as Pawcatuck/Westerly beat Northfield (N.J.) on Thursday morning, 5-0, to win the Little League East Junior League (13-14) championship at the Orange Little League Complex.

Pawcatuck/Westerly advances to the World Series in Kirkland, Wash. It begins pool play on Sunday against West champion Sunnyside of Tucson (Ariz.) at 5:30 p.m.

Trinity Lennon scattered seven hits with a strikeout for Pawcatuck/Westerly. Northfield outscored opponents, 40-10 in its previous four games.

Miranda Arruda doubled and scored and Megan Albamonti and Briana Beverly both scored.
