NFA's Outlow leaving BC football program

Former Norwich Free Academy all-state running back Marcus Outlow said Monday he will transfer from Boston College.

Outlow played at BC for two seasons.

"I don't play. I wasn't given the opportunity and I brought a lot of guys to this program," Outlow said. "I was only asking for a shot to show the world what I could do. I didn't get it. I wish them the best of luck in the future, but I've got to do what's best for me. BC wasn't the best fit. God's got me going forward.

"I learned so much," he said. "I matured a lot. I'm thankful for the chance to play at BC but I've got to keep it moving."

Injuries prevented Outlow from playing in Saturday's season finale, a 20-17 loss to Syracuse that capped a disappointing season, given that BC had been to consecutive bowl games under third-year coach Steve Addazio. The Eagles finished 3-9 and lost their last eight games.

Outlow ran for 243 yards and a touchdown, contributing to one of the worse offenses in the country. BC, which lost starting quarterback Darius Wade (third week of the season) and leading rusher Jon Hilliman (fourth week) didn't score against Florida State and Wake Forest and scored in single digits against Duke and North Carolina State. After a victory in week four over Northern Illinois, BC led in only two more games the rest of the way.

Outlow's best game in a BC uniform came during his freshman season, gaining 61 yards in a 20-17 loss at then-No. 1 Florida State. Outlow led a potential game-winning drive in the fourth period, which stalled after a missed field goal. He earned a start the following week against Syracuse.

Outlow did not speculate on where he might transfer. If he transfers to a fellow Football Bowl Subdivision school, he must sit out next season.
