    Local roundup: Sutman's two-hitter enough for Waterford baseball

    Willimantic — Walker Sutman pitched a two-hitter and was backed by a 14-hit attack as the Waterford High School baseball team remained unbeaten with a 14-1 win over Windham on Thursday.

    Waterford (11-0) is ranked second in the New Haven Register state poll.

    Kevin Johnson and Mike Rocchetti had three hits each, Chase Speller and Jake Mangual had two hits each, Justin Keating doubled and drove in three runs and Johnson, Rocchetti and Speller each scored three times.

    In other games:

    • Ben Carbone's two-run single in the third inning lifted Killingly to a 4-2 win over Montville in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Medium Division. Jeremy Sagun and TT Bowens (RBI) had two hits each for Montville (10-3, 4-2) and Tommy McDonald threw three hitless innings in relief.

    • Plainfield scored five unearned runs in the third inning and went on to beat Stonington 8-5 in the ECC Medium Division. Kyle Whipple, Griffin Crowley and Ben Dellacono each had two hits for Stonington (7-5, 1-5).

    • Tourtellotte scored a run in the top of the ninth and went on to beat Wheeler 3-2 in an ECC Small Division game. Alex Haines had a two-run double in the fourth and Haines and Caleb Melinowsky had two hits each for Wheeler (2-8, 1-4).

    H.S. boys' golf

    • Killingly won the battle of the unbeatens, topping Stonington 6-1 in an ECC Medium Division match. Killingly's Drew Aitken and Ben Lovrien shared medalist honors with 4-over-par 39s at Elmridge Golf Course. Jack Glenn (43) won at No. 2 for Stonington (7-1, 4-1). Connor Liebscher and Dylan Deotte both shot 40s for Killingly (15-0, 5-0), which won the medal points 158-174. 

    • Norwich Tech's Chris Feder-Craney was the medalist with a 45 as the Warriors beat Grasso Tech 206-220 in a CSC match at Pequot Golf Course. Dylan Renshaw shot a 47 for Norwich Tech and Ryan Smelser led Grasso Tech with a 50.

    • New London split a pair of matches, losing to Bacon Academy 5.5-1.5 and beating Plainfield 4.5-2.5 in an ECC Medium Division match. New London's Jordan Rogers shared medalist honors with Bacon's Tyler Lewis at 40. Kyle White won both his matches for New London (5-7, 2-5) and teammate Tim Glaven played to a draw against Plainfield.

    • Norwich Free Academy beat East Lyme 7-0 in an ECC Large Division match. NFA's Noah Straub was the medalist with a 42 and Spencer Molkenthin (43), Sean Gilot (44), Jack Sullivan (46) and Miles Joyner (47) also won their matches for NFA (8-2, 5-0).

    • St. Bernard lost to Griswold 5-2 in an ECC Small Division match. James Kenefick and John Nelson won matches for St. Bernard (1-9, 1-5).

    H.S. boys' tennis

    • Old Lyme remained undefeated, beating East Hampton 7-0 in a Shoreline Conference match. Brendan White, Ethan Fenton, Charlie Dahlke, Austin Pilgrim and Adam Czarnecki were all straight-set winners for Old Lyme (11-0, 11-0) as were the doubles teams of Morgan Greenho-Jason Feng and Luke Konishesky-Garrett McCarthy.

    • Fitch beat NFA 7-0 in the ECC Large Division. Chase Brown, Connor Brown, Shiloh Feldmon and Jacob Carlson were straight-set winners in singles for Fitch (5-3, 3-3), along with doubles teams of Chris Russo-Aidan Sullivan, Matt Krick-Gabe Messina and Frankie Delcampo-Ben Flax.

    H.S. girls' tennis

    • Norwich Tech remained unbeaten in the CSC with a 7-0 win over Prince Tech. Olivia Kenyon, Hannah Holloway, Lauren Veile, Lauren Fiasconaro and MaKayla Carson won singles matches for the Warriors (7-1, 7-0) along with the teams of Emily Kivela-Phoebe Joyner and Christine White-Emily Cherwin.

    • Fitch swept doubles play en route to a 6-1 win over NFA in the ECC Large Division. Laura Krick, Jessica Cote and Samantha Cote won their matches for Fitch (6-2, 4-2), along with the doubles teams of Jillian Leger-Nina Lupo, Pracheta-Sneha Kumar and Cheanna Holloway-Charlina Holloway. Lauren Jacobs won at No. 2 singles for NFA (2-7, 0-7).

    • Old Lyme swept doubles and beat East Hampton 5-2 in the Shoreline Conference.  The teams of Marissa Smith-Shannon Nosal, Maria Donato-Callie Kotzan and Kellie Sablone-Caroline Wallace all won in straight sets, as did singles players Emily Brault and Brynn McGlinchey.

    Men's lacrosse

    • Connecticut College sophomore specialist Ben Parens was named a first team all-star by the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Parens ranked fourth in the league in face-off wins, going 214-for-325 and was fifth in ground balls with 118. The Camels (7-9) made their sixth appearance in the NESCAC tournament in the past seven years.
