    Local roundup: Gonzalez clears bases with a triple in the 8th, lifts Tigers to win

    Norwich — Cesar Gonzalez hit a two-out, bases-loaded triple in the bottom of the eighth inning for the go-ahead runs as the Connecticut Tigers rallied to beat the Williamsport Crosscutters 6-4 Tuesday in a New York-Penn League game at Dodd Stadium.

    Connecticut (12-7) scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to cut its deficit to 4-3.

    Blaise Salter and Josh Lester both singled to start the Tigers’ eighth. Hunter Swilling followed with a bunt and reached safely. Will Hibbs struck out the next two batters, then gave up Gonzalez’s triple.

    Anthony Pereira doubled and scored for the Tigers.

    Lucas Williams had two hits, including a solo home run, for the Crosscutters (10-9).

    NECBL

    • Martin Figuroa (Rhode Island) went 3-for-4, including a double, with two RBI as the Mystic Schooners beat the Danbury Westerners 7-5 at Harbor Yard. Chase Lunceford (Louisiana Tech) had three hits, including a double, and scored twice for the Schooners (13-10) while Groton’s Aaron Hill (UConn) singled and scored twice. Giovanni Dingcong (St. Thomas Aquinas) hit a two-run home run for the Westerners (12-13). Danbury led 3-1 to start the fourth inning when Richard Slenker (Yale), Lunceford and Hill all scored unearned runs on an error that allowed batter Taishi Terashima (St. Bonaventure) to get to second base.

    Zone 6 American Legion

    • Kyle McComic earned the win and Mike Burrows the save as Waterford defeated Willimantic 2-1. Tyler Yeomans had a double and scored a run and Alex Petchark singled and had an RBI for Waterford.

    SEC Babe Ruth (16-18)

    • Johnny Staubley had three hits and three RBI as Waterford Blue edged East Lyme Black 13-12. Griffin Beaney added two hits and three runs for Waterford (4-2), Noah Campbell had two hits and Robert Parra and Jordon Hancock doubled. Bryan Carambot and Noah Wadsworth had two hits apiece for East Lyme (1-5).

    District 10 baseball (11-12)

    • Scott Olmstead, Sean O'Connell, and Will Rocchetti combined to pitch a one-hitter and Gavin Hernandez had three hits, including a double, in Waterford's 6-2 victory over New London. Hunter MacDuff had a hit and scored a run for New London.

    Waterford finished the round-robin portion of the tournament 4-0 and advanced to Friday's semifinal round along with Mystic (4-0), East Lyme (3-1) and Montville (3-1). No. 1 Mystic will play No. 4 East Lyme at 5 p.m. and No. 2 Waterford meets No. 3 Montville at 7:30 p.m., both at Waterford South's Patterson Field. A best-of-three championship series will begin Tuesday.

    • Cannon Dean hit a grand slam and finished with five RBI in East Lyme's 9-0 win over Pawcatuck. Will Anglin pitched 4.1 scoreless innings, striking out three, to earn the victory and added two hits and two RBI. Owen Elmer had a home run. Bobby Dimmock had two hits, including a double, and Dorian White two hits for Pawcatuck.

    • Riley John Warecke struck out seven and earned the victory as Lyme/Old Lyme topped Groton 16-3. Frank Sablone and Aidan Powers homered for Lyme/Old Lyme. Gary Campbell of Groton hit a home run for Groton.

    District 10 baseball (9-10)

    • Pawcatuck scored four runs in the first inning and went on to beat Groton 5-3. Aaron LoPresto and Austen Linicus each had a hit and a run scored for Pawcatuck and Dylan Cimini and Will McCann combined to pitch a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts. Luke Lambert had a triple, a walk and a run scored for Groton.

    District 10 softball (9-10)

    • Charlotte Cabral struck out 11 as Groton/Mystic defeated New London 17-1 in a game shortened to four innings due to the mercy rule. Groton/Mystic had 12 hits, including home runs by Sydney Lyon and Katie Tuohy.
