    Local roundup: Mystic advances to Section 3 LL baseball (11-12) final

    Killingworth — Cam McGugan hit a walkoff RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning as Mystic beat Coginchaug 5-4 in the Connecticut Section 3 Little League baseball (11-12) tournament on Wednesday night.

    McGugan's hit scored Colin Anderson and lifted the team into Friday's championship, which begins at 5:30 p.m. The District 10 champions will play the winner of Thursday night's game between Coginchaug and Hartford.

    Ryan O'Connor pitched the first 3.1 innings and Ramiro Zavala and Caleb Mewha finished up. Zavala's solo homer in the fifth tied the game at 4-4. O'Connor reached base four times with three hits and a walk and Anderson scored twice for Mystic.

    Junior Legion state tournament

    • Rocky Hill-Cromwell-Portland beat Norwich, 4-2. Jon Synott had three hits and a run for Norwich and Owen Smith had three hits.

    Section 3 baseball (9-10)

    • Mystic opened play with a 9-0 win over Middletown. Donte Valentine pitched two-hit ball over four innings to earn the win and Payton Neale homered for Mystic.

    Sutera tournament (11-12)

    • Aidan Powers and Alex Roth hit home runs as Lyme/Old Lyme beat Groton 14-2. Frank Sablone earned the win, striking out 10. Miguel Adams homered and David Tompkins had a double for Groton.

    • Pawcatuck beat Waterford 11-10. Bobby Dimock was the winning pitcher and also had a pair of doubles. Matt Castagliuolo, Nakhi Synder, Brandt Ogden and Jaden Kutz had two hits each for Pawcatuck. Nick Hynes had a single, double and grand slam for Waterford.

    • Montville beat Lyme/Old Lyme 6-4. Camren Topkin and Chas Terni had doubles for Montville, which got eight strikeouts from pitcher Justin Saad. Cameron DeCecco was the winning pitcher. Riley Warecke doubled and drove in two runs for Lyme/Old Lyme.

    Sutera tournament (9-10)

    • Nathan Virtue was the winning pitcher as Groton beat New London 5-1. Jack Ballou had two hits and Brady Borysewicz doubled for Groton. Martin Light scored New London's run.

    • East Lyme beat Waterford 17-5. Ben Kelley, Niall Green, Alex Deryfus and Sebby DeCosta had a single and double each and Quinn Killoy, Peter Sherwood and Connor Tukey also had doubles for East Lyme. Donovan Jameson doubled for Waterford.
