    Local roundup: Mascelli (6-for-6) sparks Schooners

    Keene, N.H. —  Nick Mascelli was 6-for-6 with six RBI, leading the Mystic Schooners to an 18-4 win over the Keene Swamp Bats in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game on Thursday night.

    Mascelli, who plays at Wagner College, had three doubles and stole a base. Doug Domnarski of Pawcatuck (UConn) got the win to improve to 4-1. Domnarski allowed eight hits and one earned run over seven innings with five strikeouts and one walk.

    Casey Baker (Stony Brook) hit two of the Schooners' six home runs and scored five runs. Toby Handley (Stony Brook), Martin Figueroa (Rhode Island) and Richard Slenker (Yale) also homered for Mystic (21-12).

    Tigers lose

    • The Connecticut Tigers were held to five hits in a 7-1 loss to the West Virginia Black Bears in the New York-Penn League. Austin Athmann homered in the third inning and Blaise Salter had a pair of hits for the Tigers (20-13).

    Section 3 baseball (9-10)

    • Payton Neale went 2-for-3 with a double and home run to lead Mystic into the championship game after a 15-0 four-inning win over Rocky Hill. Mystic will play Middletown at 7 p.m. Saturday. Hayden Chappel also had two hits and two runs scored to back the pitching of Trace Morales, who struck out eight and allowed two hits.

    Section 3 softball (9-10)

    • Lucy D'Amico, Marina Colonis and Sam SanJuan all had hits for Waterford in a 10-1 win over Newington. Waterford advanced to the championship, where it will play Newington at 3 p.m. Saturday. Anna Dziecinny added a double and tossed a complete game with 10 strikeouts.
