    Local roundup: Valley/Old Lyme outlasts Prince Tech 35-20

    Deep River — Matt Sapere completed 12 of 17 passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 48 yards as Valley Regional/Old Lyme beat Prince Tech on Friday, 35-20, in a non-league football game.

    Garrett Burdick had four catches for 66 yards and a touchdown and kicked five extra points for the Warriors (5-1). Dan Stecher added a 5-yard touchdown run.

    Prince Tech is 3-3.

    H.S. volleyball 

    • Gabi Murphy had seven kills and four aces to highlight East Lyme's 25-14, 25-22, 25-22 win over Ledyard in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I match. Sydney Iannantuono added 10 kills and Megan Appleton seven for the Vikings (8-7, 4-3) while Ahna Harkness had seven assists for the Colonels (7-11, 2-6), Whitney Brandt seven kills and Bethanie Deveau 15 digs.

    • Madison Bodley had 22 kills and Vanessa Gumbs 15 kills as Norwich Free Academy downed Capital Prep 25-8, 25-17, 27-29, 25-16 in the Constitution State Conference. Chloe Guzman added 21 assists for Norwich Tech (14-3).

    • Gretchen Dusza had 13 digs and nine assists during Waterford's 25-11, 25-10, 25-15 loss to Woodstock Academy in an ECC Division II match. Olivica Pacheco added seven kills and Ana Magano five for the Lancers (8-9, 4-4).

    • Raychelle Rivera recorded four digs and four assists, and Preonna Boyd-Cannon contributed four kills for Grasso Tech in a 25-12, 25-17 and 25-12 loss to Cheney Tech. Haley Beal also had three blocks, two service points and two kills for the Eagles. 

    • Savannah Galluci (11 aces) and Raina Haase (seven aces, seven kills) helped Wheeler to a 25-13, 25-21 and 25-11 sweep over host Windham. With two matches remaining, the Lions (6-12, 2-6 ECC Division III) have to go 2-0 to qualify for the Class S tournament.

    • Old Lyme was beaten by East Hampton 25-11, 25-16 and 25-21 in the Shoreline Conference. Livy Schumacher had 20 digs, three kills and one block for the Wildcats while Katie Reid added four assists and one ace and Lexi Duddy had nine digs.

    H.S. girls' soccer

    • Jaida Davis scored twice as Norwich Free Academy downed Fitch, 7-0, in an ECC Division I game. Jessica Bryan, Haley Warzecha, Natalie Dionne, Juliette Hogan and Brianna Herman scored for the Wildcats (7-6, 6-2). Heather Haddon had 12 saves for the Falcons (2-11, 2-6) and Kylah Doehring had 10.

    College volleyball

    • Freshman Angelou Dunton had 14 kills, 10 digs and three aces, but Coast Guard Academy's rally fell short in a 3-2 loss to Susquehanna. Game scores were 25-12, 25-10, 23-25, 20-25 and 15-6. Emma Saunders and Alex Kempf each added seven kills and three blocks for the Bears (14-10), who had their five-match win streak snapped.

    College field hockey

    • Top-ranked UConn won its fourth straight Big East title with 5-3 victory over Georgetown. The Huskies (16-0, 6-0) close out the regular season on Sunday at No. 5 Maryland, then will be the top-seed for the Big East tournament Nov. 4 and 6 in Philadelphia. Casey Umstead and Karlie Heistand each had a goal and an assist for UConn.
