    Local roundup: Henderson, Waterford swimming celebrates Senior Night with a win

    Waterford  — Caitlin Henderson won a pair of events as Waterford High School beat Fitch/Stonington for just the second time in program history, winning 93-89 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference swimming meet Thursday.

    Henderson, one of four swimmers honored on the Lancers' Senior Night, won the 200-meter individual medley (2:47.31) and 100 breaststroke (1:23.33). Tori Zane, Cathy Yan and Molly Podeszwa of Montville were also honored. Henderson teamed with Elyse Gathy, Zane and Saucier to win the 200 medley relay in 2:19.82. Sophia Podeszwa and Gathy also won events for Waterford (8-5), which finished tied for second in the ECC with Fitch/Stonington at 7-3.

    Skyler Pearse of Fitch/Stonington (9-3) won the 50 freestyle (30.67) and 100 butterfly (1:13.10). Paulomi Sardar, Cassandra Cini and Alyson Lowney also won events for Fitch/Stonington and Danielle Millerick, Kelcie Drury, Pearse, Cini, Sardar and Lowney combined to win two relays. 

    H.S. volleyball

    • Montville closed out its regular season with a 25-17, 25-13, 25-22 win over Wheeler. Christi Johnson had 16 digs, Hailey Edwards had 18 digs and Brooke LaVallie had 20 assists for Montville (7-13). Sarah Spracklin had five kills and Nikki Collins had four kills for Wheeler (7-13). 

    • Fitch lost to Mercy 3-2 in its regular-season finale. Ryana Kelsey had 12 kills, Nora Ryan had 13 kills, Olivia Nordstrom had 30 assists and Caroline Parker had 16 digs for Fitch (13-6). Mercy (12-7) won 25-23, 19-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-13.

    H.S. girls' soccer

    • Kayla Tosses made 10 saves in Norwich Free Academy's 3-0 loss to Hand. The game was a makeup from earlier in the season, meaning the Wildcats (8-8-1) sandwiched the matchup between a pair of ECC tournament games. No. 6 NFA plays at No. 3 Woodstock in an ECC quarterfinal game at 3:30 p.m. Friday.

    H.S. field hockey

    • Emma Miller had a goal and an assist as Stonington beat Simsbury 2-0 in a nonleague game Wednesday night. Trinity Lennon had a goal, Abby Flakus had an assist and Cameron Dreher made seven saves for the Bears (13-2-1).

    Men's soccer

    • Mitchell College and Lesley played to a 1-1 tie in NECC game on Wednesday night. Former NFA standout Andris Vital gave Mitchell (4-8-3, 4-1-2) a 1-0 lead in the 74th minute but Lesley tied the score with 1:57 left in the second half.
