    Local roundup: Ognisty leads Stonington golfers past NFA

    Stonington — Led by medalist Jack Ognisty, Stonington beat Norwich Free Academy 5-2 in a boys' golf match on Thursday.

    Ognisty shot a 2-over-par 37 at Elmridge Golf Course (red course) to edge Noah Straub (38). Will Cavaliere (43) and Grant Hamilton (41) also won their matches for Stonington (2-0), which took the medal point 161-163. Jack Sullivan (39) and Sean Gilot (41) won matches for NFA (2-1).

    In other matches:

    • Old Lyme beat East Hampton 158-203 in a Shoreline Conference match. Graham Aird of Old Lyme was the medalist with a 38, teammates Matt McCarthy and Mason Swaney had 39s and Peter Macadam shot a 42 for the Wildcats (2-0, 2-0).

    • Waterford beat New London 7-0. Ryan Sadosky was the medalist with a 43 and Glen Faber (44) and Blake Arnold (48) also won matches for Waterford (2-0), which won two other matches by forfeit. New London is 0-2.

    • Grasso Tech lost to Ellis Tech in a Constitution State Conference match, 187-239. Hunter Brazee led Grasso with a 50.

    H.S. baseball

    • Mike Williams singled home Jake Parizo in the top of the eighth inning as Fitch beat East Lyme 3-2 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I game, handing the Vikings their first loss of the season. Ian Cekala pitched a seven-hitter for the win, striking out four with no walks. Wes Jacey, Dan Clark, Williams and Parizo had two hits each for Fitch (4-6, 2-2). Luke Leonard was 3-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base for East Lyme (7-1, 3-1), ranked third in the GameTimeCT.com/New Haven Register Top 10 poll.

    • Chris Munzer went 4-for-4, including two doubles, with four RBI and three runs as Wheeler trounced Windham, 16-2, for its first ECC Division III win of the season. Chris Caisse had three hits, two runs, and two RBI for Wheeler (2-6, 1-4) and Bowen Baker had three hits, two runs and an RBI. Also, Anthony Cibarich went 2-for-3, including a double, with a run and an RBI.

    • Collin Bakken pitched a complete game, scattering seven hits while striking out six and walking one, in Waterford's 4-3 win over Stonington in Division II. Dylan Bosco's double sparked a four-run fourth inning and Walker Sutman added an RBI single while Jared Burrows went 2-for-3 and Sonny Pezzello had two hits and an RBI for the Lancers (7-1, 4-0). Kevin Ferrer had three hits for the Bears (3-3, 2-2).

    • Luke Garafalo allowed just three hits over six innings with 13 strikeouts and a run as Xavier beat Fitch on Wednesday night, 7-3. Tyler Nelli scored twice, Mike Williams had a double and an RBI, and Nick Helbig struck out five in five innings for Fitch.

    H.S. softball

    • Wheeler picked up its first win of the season, beating Windham 15-0 in an ECC Division III game that ended in the fifth inning on a mercy rule. Wheeler starter Kendra Perez (1-0) struck out eight with no walks over three innings in a combined no-hitter. Nikki Collins and Perez had two hits each and Perez drove in three runs for Wheeler (1-5, 1-3).

    • Keri Trigo had two hits, including a home run, as Cheney Tech beat Grasso Tech, 18-3, in five innings. Erin Blake had two hits for Grasso (0-6) and Elisa Lebron doubled.

    H.S. girls' tennis

    • Brynn Doughty, Zara Dobson, George Anne Amar, Cassie Cannon and Princess Omotosho all won their singles matches as New London won its first match of the season, 7-0, over Norwich Tech. The Whalers are 1-3. The Warriors are 1-2.

    • Stonington remained unbeaten with a 7-0 win over Bacon Academy in an ECC Division II match. Gabby Dellacono, Charlotte Johnstone, Makenzie Sadler and Margot Goodman each won 8-0 (pro sets) for the Bears (4-0, 2-0).

    H.S. boys' tennis

    • Stonington beat Bacon Academy 7-0 in an ECC Division II match. Jake Stiger, William Michelson, Sean Bessette and Graham Johnstone were straight-set winners for the Bears (3-1, 2-0).

    H.S. girls' golf

    • NFA lost to Hand, 197-241. Ivy Chen led NFA with a 51.

    Women's lacrosse

    • Senior Tina Balzotti had six goals, including the 100th of her career, as Conn College downed Western Connecticut, 17-8. Anna Jorgensen had a goal and two assists for Conn (3-10) and Lacey Hale, Kirby Heffrin and Jamie Navoni all scored twice.
