    Local colleges: Mitchell's David Still wins own Invite and breaks course record

    New London — Mitchell College David Still set a course record to win individual honors at Saturday's Mitchell Cross Country Invitational.

    Still, a sophomore from New London finished in 17 minutes, 14.9 seconds on the 8,000-meter course at Mitchell Woods, breaking away late for the win.

    Wheelock won the team title with 34 points and the Mariners finished fourth with 83. Nick Lebron (21:25.9), Blessing Keaton (22:08.1), Ajibola Majoyeogbe (24:45.3) and Evan Kristal (27:20.8) rounded out the top five for Mitchell.

    In other meets:

    • Connecticut College placed fourth among 40 schools at the UMass Dartmouth Invite. UMass Lowell won the event with 82 points while the Camels finished with 155. Scott Mason and Danny Aschale finished fourth and fifth, respectively for Conn, Mason in 25:30 and Aschale in 25:30.2. Also scoring for the Camels were Connor Trapp (29th, 26:17), Price Day (37th, 26:28) and Josh Simensky (87th, 27:35).

    Women's cross country

    • Lesley placed five runners in the top eight, including individual winner Amy Bouchard, to win team honors at the Mitchell Invite with 19 points. The Mariners were third with 80 points and were led by Kathryn McCormack, who finished 21st overall in 25:32.1. Caelin Hetherman (26:41.4), Francesca Pinard (28:07.2), Victoria Chalko (30:05.2) and Kaitlyn Polcaro (30:48.3) rounded out the top five for Mitchell.

    • Conn College finished 10th at the UMass Dartmouth Invite. The Camels finished with 335 points, well off the pace set by Assumpton (56). Freshman Meredith Cronin led Conn by placing 23rd overall in 19:15. Also scoring for the Camels were Eva Brydson (57th,19:47), Grace Sheeran (76th, 20:01), Hannah Noyes (81st, 20:04) and Tarvis Hintlian (112th, 20:36).

    Men's soccer

    • Conn College and Tufts battled to an overtime scoreless tie in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Both teams are 3-0-1, 1-0-1. Goalie A.J. Marcucci made eight saves for the Camels, who were outshot 16-5.

    • Unbeaten Springfield College scored just three minutes into the game and cruised to a 3-0 victory over Coast Guard Academy in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference game. The Pride are 5-0, 1-0. Montville's Jake Sorenson made one save in goal for the Bears (2-1, 0-1).

    • Old Westbury held off Mitchell College for a 2-1 victory in New London. Trailing 2-0, Andrew Storton scored with four minutes remaining for the Mariners (0-3-1) off an assist from Jarron Walter. Goalie Seth Strader of Norwich Free Academy stopped four shots for Mitchell.

    • Adbou Mbacke Thiam scored two goals in the first 15 minutes, his third and fourth of the season, but UConn couldn't hold on and had to settle for a 2-2 double overtime draw with North Florida at Morrone Stadium. The Huskies are 2-2-2.

    Women's soccer

    • Conn College and Tufts played to a 1-1 double overtime tie in the NESCAC. After Michelle Medina converted a penalty kick in the 60th minute to give the Camels (3-0-1, 1-0-1) a 1-0 lead, Sophie Lloyd tied it for the Jumbos (2-0-2, 1-0-2) moments later. Bryanna Montalvo stopped five shots in goal for Conn, which held a 17-12 shots edge.

    • Springfield (6-0, 1-0) remained unbeaten with a 5-0 victory over Coast Guard in the NEWMAC. Goalie Rachel Boohar made nine saves for the Bears (3-2, 0-1).

    Field hockey

    • Five different plays scored goals as Tufts (2-1, 2-0) rolled to a 5-0 victory over Conn College in the NESCAC. Andi McGraw made nine saves in goal for the Camels (1-3, 0-2), who were outshot 32-2.

    Women's volleyball

    • Coast Guard earned its first NEWMAC win of the season with a 3-2 win over Emerson. Game scores were 18-25, 25-21, 25-19, 21-25 and 15-7. Freshman Bridget Boyle had 16 kills and 12 digs to lead the Bears (7-3, 1-1) while Alexi Dean added 12 kills, Angelou Dunton 10 kills and 17 digs, Makenna Martin 27 assists and Michelle McGill 15 digs.

    • Williams rolled to a 25-22, 26-14 and 25-18 over Conn College in the NESCAC. Grace McGee had 17 assists and 11 digs, and Katia Elisman had 13 assists and 10 digs for the Camels (6-2, 0-2). In addition, freshman Elle Kass had 18 digs while Emma Hewlin had 10 kills.
