    Local roundup: Bauman (30 points) paces East Lyme past Fitch

    East Lyme — Megan Bauman made five 3-pointers for a game-high 30 points as East Lyme defeated Fitch 72-42 on Monday in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I girls' basketball game.

    Nadia Tarhini had 16 points and Sophie Dubreil scored 11 for the Vikings (9-3, 3-1), which used a 21-6 third-quarter edge to pull away from the Falcons.

    Jazzlyn Henderson scored 11 for Fitch (1-10, 0-3).

    In other games:

    • Xaryia Melendez (14 points) was one of four New London players to score in double figures as the Whalers beat South Kingstown (R.I.) 55-31. Taina Pagan had 12 points and Leilani McClellan and Spencer Roman both scored 10 for New London (11-0), ranked second in the GameTimeCT/New Haven Register Top 10 state poll.

    • Makalya Poirier-Vaughters had 19 points as Norwich Free Academy won its fourth straight game, 41-27, over Waterford. Sarah Erickson had eight points for NFA (5-6). Marilyn Childs and Amy Pinch both scored eight for the Lancers (6-5).

    • St. Bernard couldn't overcome a slow start and fell to Windham, 30-25, in an ECC Division III game. The Saints (3-8, 2-3) trailed 19-3 after the first quarter. Emily Nelson scored 12 points for St. Bernard.

    Boys' basketball

    • Gio Lopez’s free throw with 3.8 seconds left in the game gave New London its first lead and a 53-52 win over New Britain. Jalen Benson had 16 points and Isaiah Benson scored 11 for New London (7-2). DeVonte Wrighten added 10 points and Lopez scored 8. The Whalers beat the Hurricanes (5-4) in their previous meeting this season (56-41, Jan. 6).

    • Dev Ostrowski scored 23 points as East Lyme outlasted Fitch 58-50 in an ECC Division I game. Luke Leonard added 15 points and JR Gandenberger 10 for the Vikings (6-1, 2-1). Ostrowski, Leonard and Gandenberger also had two 3-pointers apiece. Ajia Brown led the Falcons (1-9, 0-3) with 15 points.

    • Ken Turner scored 15 of his 21 points in the first half and had seven steals as Ledyard bounced Windham, 86-45. Trevor Hutchins had 18 points and 13 rebounds for Ledyard (6-2) and E.J. Ahlborn had 13 points and 9 rebounds. Jack Woodruff added six assists. Clifford Jones scored 21 for the Whippets.

    • Brady Sheffield scored 18 points and Aedan Using added 13 points in Old Lyme's 58-53 loss to Valley Regional in the Shoreline Conference. The Wildcats fell to 6-4, 6-3.

    Women’s basketball

    • Kylie Caouette had 18 points, five steals and four rebounds for Connecticut College in its 72-59 win over Arcadia. Margaret Corcoran scored a career-high 17 with seven rebounds for Conn (11-4) and Sami Ashton had a career-high nine assists. Also, Dana Muckstadt added seven points and nine rebounds.

    College honors

    • Mitchell College junior Domenico Santiago was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week in men's basketball for the first time after averaging team highs of 25.7 points and 11.3 rebounds per game while shooting 77 percent (34-for-44) from the floor in three conference wins. He recorded a double-double in all three games for the Mariners (7-7, 3-0).

    • Conn College goalie Connor Rodericks was named New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week in men's hockey. Rodericks posted a 3-0 shutout of Hamilton and led the Camels to a 3-2 win over Amherst, making 33 saves in each game. The Camels (5-8, 5-3) have won three straight NESCAC games.
