Communitywide arts and music celebration coming to Groton

Groton - Northeast Academy will host its townwide "Celebrate the Arts" event, which displays artwork and offers performances by students and groups in the community, in Groton on Thursday and Friday.

The "Art Gallery" will feature work by students including those from Charles Barnum, Claude Chester, Northeast Academy and S.B. Butler elementary schools, Carl C. Cutler Middle School and Robert E. Fitch High School. Uncas Elementary School in Norwich and local artists like Mark Russell also will exhibit work.

The Coast Guard Saxophone Quartet, Eastern CT String Ensemble and the swing band "As Time Goes By" also will perform, along with student bands and choirs.

The event will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, and from 9:10 to 11:40 a.m., 1 to 3 p.m. and 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday.
