Old Lyme announces Citizen of the Year

The Old Lyme Board of Selectmen has announced that Lynn Fairfield-Sonn is the town's Citizen of the Year.

The announcement was made at the Annual Meeting at Town Hall on Feb. 23.

"Lynn Fairfield-Sonn's volunteer commitments are testament to her steadfast loyalty and dedication," states the selectmen's resolution, posted on the town's website. "Through her efforts both locally and regionally, our 2014 Citizen of the Year has demonstrated those values time and time again."

Jim and Lynn Fairfield-Sonn moved to Old Lyme in 1984 and chose their Lyme Street location so their children - Anne, Jimmy, and John - could walk to school and get involved, the resolution states.

Lynn Fairfield-Sonn is the director of development and community relations for the Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut, an organization she first volunteered for in 1989.

She has served as president of the Junior League of Greater New Haven as well as the Old Lyme Day Care Center (now the Children's Learning Center). She has been on the boards of the Chamber of Commerce of Southeastern Connecticut, the Coordinating Council for Children in Crisis, Janus House, and New Haven Habitat for Humanity. She was a Board of Selectmen appointee to the Historic District Commission for 8 years.

She was co-president of the Lyme-Old Lyme school district's Friends of Music for four years, and president of the Football Booster club for six years. She has twice served as the treasurer of the Old Lyme-Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library Board, and served as chairwoman of the Lyme-Old Lyme Board of Education for eight years.
