    Royce speaker series begins Wednesday at Pine Point

    Stonington — Pine Point School will host the newly established Royce Speaker Series beginning Wednesday with Rosetta Eun Ryong Lee of the Seattle Girls' School and continuing April 23 with Dr. David L. Katz from Yale University. The series is sponsored by Chuck and Deborah Royce, whose grandchildren attend the school. Chuck Royce owns a mutual fund company and localy known for his renovations of the Ocean House, Watch Hill Inn and Weekapaug Inn in Westerly.   

    Lee will speak about how cultural values, power, privilege and differences affect the way we communicate. This talk will cover tools for questioning assumptions and ways to improve cross-cultural communication. She is a diversity speaker and a trainer on issues such as identity development, relational aggression among adolescent girls, ending bullying and bias in schools, prejudice reduction and coalition building, and gender bias in the classroom, especially in the STEM fields.

    Katz wil discuss popular culture glamorizes a lifestyle often at odds with the diet and exercise choices we know are best for healthy living.  He directs the Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center, is a board-certified specialist in Preventative Medicine/Public Health and a clinical instructor at the Yale School of Medicine.

    Both talks are free and open to the public. They begin at 7 p.m.
