Sailing academy offers scholarships for children

The Niantic Bay Sailing Academy, a not-for-profit organization based at the Niantic Bay Yacht Club, is offering eight scholarships to its Junior Sailing program this summer.

Two scholarships will be available for each of the four school systems located between the Connecticut and Thames rivers: Lyme-Old Lyme, East Lyme, Waterford and New London. Eligibility is up to eighth grade.

Representatives from the Niantic Bay Sailing Academy will have a booth at the Lymes' Youth Service Bureau Summer Camp and Activities Fair from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Lyme-Old Lyme High School Commons.

The academy was formed to teach sailing to youths with an emphasis on the environmental sensitivity of the water. The NBSA offers a 4 or 8 week summer program (June 22 – August 14) which provides instruction for ages 7 to 17.  All abilities are welcome. Classes meet several times per week for several hours depending on ability. Children must pass a swim test.
