Stonington selectmen to continue development plan hearing Wednesday

Stonington — The Board of Selectmen will continue its public hearing on proposed update to the town’s Plan of Conservation and Development on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Mystic Middle School.

At the first night of the hearing on March 25, speakers including Economic Development Commission Chairman Blunt White and the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce criticized aspects of the plan and recommended that selectmen delay the adoption of the plan until the town hires a director of planning who can review the proposal and complete “a more balanced plan.”

The Planning and Zoning Commission, meanwhile, has rescheduled its public hearing on the plan to April 28 at 7 p.m. at Mystic Middle School. The hearing was rescheduled from April 14 because that is the same night the Board of Finance is slated to hold its public hearing on the proposed 2015-16 budget. The commission may vote to adopt the plan after listening to comments, according to a press release from Town Planner Keith Brynes. The plan is a guide to the development of the town over the next decade.
