Hearing tonight on Mystic wine bar plan
Mystic — The Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing today on a proposal to convert the former Frank’s Exxon service station at 30 Broadway into a 99-seat wine bar/cafe that includes a 30-seat outdoor patio.
The hearing on the special use permit application by Merrily Connery, the owner of Saltwater Farm Vineyard in Stonington, is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at Mystic Middle School.
According to the application, the garage bays of the 1,900-square-foot station, which is located at the intersection of Washington Street, would house a barroom and indoor seating. There would be no live or amplified music and it would be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Food would also be served. Plans also show that the gas station canopy would remain with landscaping.
The state Department of Transportation has said the driveway for Route 1 adjacent to Washington Street must be removed and curbing installed to create a more defined entry to the site.
