State Sen. Cathy Osten, D-Sprague, and state Rep. Mike France, R-Ledyard, presented a state citation to J. David Olsson, a founding member of the Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad, during an awards ceremony May 18 in the Old Judiciary Room of the State Capitol in Hartford.

Olsson, 75, also received a Distinguished Achievement Award from the state Department of Public Health. Olsson helped found the Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad in 1972 and is the only founding member still active. He said he enjoys helping people, noting, “It makes you feel good all over.”
