North Stonington special town meeting to occur June 29

North Stonington — The Board of Selectmen will host a special town meeting June 29 to discuss and act on two issues.

The first item slated to be discussed at the meeting, which will begin at 7 p.m. in the New Town Hall conference room, is meant to clarify the wording residents saw at the Oct. 20, 2014, special town meeting. The wording didn't specify into what account the additional appropriation for a $245,400 Small Town Economic Assistance Program grant, which residents approved, would be distributed.

Residents also will hear and act upon a request from the town's resident state troopers for a $25,700 state Department of Transportation rural road grant.

Although the draft copy of the public notice originally set the meeting for Monday, the selectmen decided at their June 16 meeting to change the date to June 29. The change gave them time to place a legal notice in the classifieds section of The Westerly Sun at least five days in advance of the special town meeting, as required by law.
