    It's taco time!

Students line up to order tacos in Spanish outside Center School in Old Lyme.

Editor's note: This corrects the location of the school.

You might expect a visit from an ice cream truck on a Friday afternoon, but fifth-graders at Center School in Old Lyme recently awaited the arrival of Taquería Cinco, a taco truck.

With the support of the Center School PTO, over 60 students placed orders using their Spanish conversational skills for “carne asada, pollo, or cerdo” tacos. Their Spanish teacher, Michele Tackett, who they call Señora, said that bringing Taquería Cinco to the school was the perfect opportunity for the children to have an authentic cultural and language experience to culminate three years of elementary Spanish study.
