Groton hires new economic and community development manager

Groton — Groton has hired a former planning director for the city of Newport, R.I., as its new economic and community development manager.

Paige Bronk, who served as planning director for Newport for more than a decade, started July 16 in the Groton Town Office of Planning and Development Services. Bronk also worked as economic development manager in North Kingstown, R.I., and most recently, as director of development at Rhode Island Housing.

His appointment is the second hire this summer to help reorganize the Office of Planning and Development Services and sharpen its focus on economic development.

Deborah Jones, an environmental planner for more than 20 years, started June 22 as the new assistant director of planning. She will oversee special projects, including an audit of zoning and subdivision regulations and a market analysis of Groton, among other tasks.

The positions do not change staffing levels in the department because two vacant jobs were not filled.

Bronk has a bachelor's degree in environmental studies from Alfred University and a master's degree in community planning from the University of Rhode Island. He could not be reached for comment Monday.
