New London Greens to host Riverside Park cleanup Saturday

New London — The New London Greens invite community members to join their proposed City Council candidates Tim Hanser and Ronna Stuller, as well as Board of Education candidates Mirna Martínez and Jason Morris, for a cleanup at Riverside Park at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Gloves and trash bags will be provided. Bring hand tools such as rakes and pruners, if you have them, for spreading mulch and clearing brush in anticipation of the fifth annual Down by the Riverside Festival, which will be held Sept. 19.

Following the work session, at 12:30 p.m. refreshments will be served and there will be a discussion about Riverside Park's value to the community, challenges faced and future plans for improvement.

The Riverside Park cleanup is the first of a series of events at New London parks planned by the New London Greens.

The next cleanup is scheduled for Sept. 26 at Bates Woods, the city's largest open space.

According to a news release, the Green Party is committed to sustainability, social and economic justice, grass-roots democracy and nonviolence.
