One student taken to hospital, released, after Norwich school bus accident

Norwich — A seventh-grade student from Kelly Middle school was taken to the hospital and later released Thursday after a school bus accident on Rogers Road.

The bus was taking 11 students home from Kelly Middle when it struck an object of some kind like a rock or curb, Norwich Superintendent Abby Dolliver said.

One student felt injured and was taken to The William W. Backus Hospital, Dolliver said.

She met the student at the hospital and spoke to her father later Thursday, Dolliver said.

"She's home, and she's going to school tomorrow," Dolliver said of the student.

The remaining students were taken home by a different bus.

The bus involved in the accident suffered "quite a bit of damage" Dolliver said, though she did not have the specifics yet.
