The Day receives three regional awards

Natick, Mass. — The weekday and Sunday editions of The Day were recognized as Newspaper of the Year on Thursday by the New England Newspaper & Press Association.

The awards were accepted by Managing Editor Timothy Cotter and Deputy Managing Editor Lisa McGinley.

The Day also received a Publick Occurences Award for an investigative series by Izaskun Larrañeta that found more than a half-dozen instances across the state in which property owners facing foreclosure believe they were misled by a scheme run by a man convicted of similar illegal activity in New Jersey in 2003.

The awards, which are named after the first newspaper published in America, recognize superior work at daily and weekly newspapers.

The weekday award was in the 15,000-25,000 circulation category and the Sunday award in the 20,000-30,000 circulation category.

The judges applauded Larrañeta’s strong reporting and writing and her “sharp focus on the victims.”

The awards were presented at a luncheon at the Crowne Plaza hotel.
