Stonington selectmen change time of Wednesday meeting

Stonington — The Board of Selectmen has changed the time of its Wednesday meeting from 7 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the police station.

One item the board may discuss is the consent order regarding the appointment of Selectman Michael Spellman, which the state has now ruled as having violated election law. Thursday is the deadline for all selectmen to sign the order.

The board also may consider a request by the Economic Development Commission that it urge the Planning and Zoning Commission to "act without delay" on a recommendation in the town's newly approved Plan of Conservation and Development to create a Heritage Mill zone for historic mill sites. This would allow for an expansion of commercial uses in the mills. The EDC feels an expansion of uses would promote the rehabilitation of mills along Mechanic Street, two of which are now up for sale.
