Norwich police make arrests in two burglaries

Norwich — Police arrested two people in two separate burglaries that occurred over the weekend.

On Saturday, police said at 12:10 p.m. they received a report that a burglary was in progress at a residence on McKinley Avenue Extension. The burglar, identified as David DeJesus, 34, forced his way into the home before he was interrupted by a resident who had just gotten home, police said.

Police said DeJesus, who was armed with a knife, threatened to stab the victim when he was confronted. The victim was able to call 911 and give police a description of DeJesus' car and the license plate number.

Police found DeJesus' car on Town Street, where he parked his car in a retail parking lot. He was then apprehended by police without incident as he exited his car.

Police said they found the stolen items that he allegedly took from the residence.

DeJesus, of 87 Hickory St., Apt. 2, was charged with first-degree burglary, fifth-degree larceny, second-degree criminal mischief and second-degree threatening. He is being held on a $50,000 bond, pending his arraignment Tuesday in Norwich Superior Court.

Police also said they arrested a 17-year-old juvenile male who allegedly broke into a liquor store just after midnight Monday.

Police said a burglar alarm at Kenny P's II liquor store on Hamilton Avenue was activated at 12:01 a.m. When police arrived, they saw that someone had broken into the business.

A Norwich K-9 conducted a search and found the suspect. Police said they recovered the stolen liquor as well as the object that was used to enter the store.

The teenager was charged with third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny, second-degree criminal mischief and possession of alcohol by a minor. He was released into the custody of a parent and given a summons to appear in Juvenile Court.
