Tribe donating $20,000 to Joslin Diabetes Center, L+M
Mashantucket — The Mashantucket Pequot Tribe announced it is donating $20,000 to the Joslin Diabetes Center and Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.
The donation represents a portion of the proceeds from the tribe’s 10th Annual Drive for Diabetes Charity Golf Event, which was held in September at Lake of Isles Golf Course.
“Our goal is to bring attention to this important disease that affects so many people in our community,” Rodney Butler, the Mashantucket chairman, said in a statement. “The money raised helps fund programs geared toward educating people in prevention and maintenance of Diabetes.”
Graham Gavert, L+M’s director of development, said the tribe’s donation would be used to underwrite education and wellness training for patients who have limited or no insurance.
